Other experiences with reduction of the chemicals pressure

The project group has conducted interviews with a number of actors working with reduction of the chemicals pressure. Interviewees cover the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, the Information Centre for Environment and Health, the National Consumer Agency, the Ecolabel Secretariat, the Danish Society for Nature Conservation, and the Danish Working Environment Authority. The interviews were carried out to avoid duplication of work and to find inspiration and good indicators for the efforts. Therefore, questions dealt with measures planned to reduce the chemicals pressure and measures taken in the past as well as indicators used to follow the efforts and measure the effects.

The most conspicuous result of the interviews is that there is relatively much information to the conscious, private consumer, whereas there is little material produced by the interviewees directed at enterprises. The interviews showed that a large number of product investigations have been carried out within selected product groups, but that the future effort regarding product investigations will be reduced. This reduction occurs despite the fact that the publication of product results is assessed to be a useful tool in order to have manufacturers react and to influence consumer behaviour.
