New audit model – presentation and work shop

New audit model – presentation

A status on the work on a new audit model was presented by Karin Langendorf from the project team.

The project team would like to discuss their considerations in the connection with a new audit model with Neumünster and Siauliai and learn about the experiences from Neumünster and Siauliai about audit or other kinds of evaluation.

Summary of the workshop

Neumünster:

Neumünster has only little experience with audition.
Throughout Germany disagreement exists about which indicators to choose for audition.
In relation to (car-) traffic the region has estimated the energy consumption per car/citizen.

Neumünster has kindly shared a report documenting their work with and knowledge of indicators. The Council (?) has a copy of the report. Though, there are no data on CO2 and a lack of data concerning Neumünster. The report holds data and comparisons for the region.

Neumünster is part of an association of 39 cities. The Cities are assessed on a number of parameters. The results are not made public, but Arne will pass on information. Arne Lewandowski will ask his colleagues about there experience with the EMAS system.

Silauliai

Audition of the environmental effort is a very new subject matter in Lithuania. It became valid as Lithuania applied for membership of the EU.

Silauliai is trying to gain experience in audition through cooperation with other cities. Silauiai is member of the Union of the Baltic Cities.

Union of the Baltic Cities has initiated some projects with environmental focus. The cities work together 2 and 2. The cities with experience in audition have carried out the audition in member cities.

The aim of the collaboration is to obtain comparable records of the environmental effort. The records take outset in the EMAS system. The University of West England and City of Newcastle is also a project associate. The project has gained financial support from the EU.

Silauliai plans to lead the town hall to an EMAS certification. All departments take part in the project. First result of the project is an increase in the amount of paper for recycling.

Conclusions:

Siauliai will pass on their first findings in relation to the EMAS project.
The Audition Team makes contact to Siauliai to establish teamwork.
