Anchorage – presentation and work shop

Presentation of anchorage projects

The status of the work on methods for the anchorage of the environmental work between citizens, enterprises and the municipal institutions was presented by Pia Staalgaard from the project team.

Information about the project was given to the meeting participant. Three examples of anchorage projects were presented:

  • Green Network

Green Network is a ten years old organisation with a mission to facilitate cooperation between authorities and enterprises with respect to environmental issues– To become a full member of Green Network it is necessary to make an environmental statement. In recent years, the focus on social statements has increased.

  • The Green Guide

The Green Guide is a local environmental guide for citizens, enterprises and the institutions of the municipality. The mission of the Green Guide is to work for anchorage of environmentally sustainable thinking

  • New model for cleaning the municipality area.

According to this model it is possible to introduce user payment for cleaning of the public areas that are not covered by the act on public roads (roads, paths, squares and open spaces).

Summary of the workshop

Neumünster:

Arne suggested several projects which could be of use in the work with anchorage.
In Neumünster the population is declining which causes a number of problems. Therefore the city of Neumünster has effectuated a plan to turn around this development. The plan has a wide aim, connected to Agenda 21, and focusing on socio-economic and partly environmental aspects.

Two of the projects from Neumünster were introduced:

How children can be involved in the development of the future Neumünster, what they would like from the city, and how to integrate their wishes in the development of Neumünster.

  • Future Conference (zukunft konference)
A conference with the theme: The Future Neumünster, about the development of Neumünster. What is most interesting in relation to anchorage is the outline of the conference. The conference invited 8x8 participants, a total of 64. The participants were mingled and put in 8 groups. Then 8 topics were chosen for discussion in the 8 groups. This model was chosen to ensure to cover all the aspects of the topics.
This project was part of an Interreg III project and more information is to be found at www.region21.net

Arne Lewandowski pointed out other aspect to work with. He mentioned city atmosphere and well planed infrastructure as examples. In Neumünster work has been done to renovate military areas. Also attention has been paid to swing parks in connection with AG21. A children’s conference with swing parks as theme was called together.

In relation to AG21 the Mayor invited everybody with an interest to join a symposium.

Arne Lewandowski will pass on information and written details on above issues.

Silauliai

Arimas Rutkauskus pointed out he was not prepared for a discussion of anchorage. He did note, however, a project called “ECO window”. There might be know-how to extract from this project. He offered to find out more and pass on the information.

Conclusions:

Nor Neumünster or Silauliai had comparable examples of anchorage within the work for a better environment. Neumünster had examples of related projects, but on a much larger scale.
Arne has started describing these projects in the framework of the “anchorage model”, and will finish this work.

It was agreed to contact Odense Municipality for translated details on some of the projects – especially the “Future Conference”

The examples of anchorage projects are to be commented by Neumünster and Silauiai, and the Anchorage Project Team holds the initiative.
